About Us

Some people call us crazy folk.

And most years, we used to call Austin, Texas home. Now, we call Salida, Colorado Home.  We have a house, we had a dog and we have even a bigger bunch of family and friends here. We have banana belt weather, crazy endurance sports like running and triathlons, and really incredible Mexican food.

And, we have a blog that is where we can make changes.

But something tugs at the both of us.

In 2000, we left Austin to spend two years on the island of Cyprus. Jimmy built hydrologic (that means water, people!) databases for the Greek-Cypriot and Turkish-Cypriot administrations. Janie managed a US Agency for International Development-funded project meant to promote peace between Greek Cypriots and Turkish Cypriots. Learn more about our experience in Cyprus in the Journal section.

In March 2006, we will move to Malawi, Africa, where we’ll live in Blantyre, a city of 500,000. Janie will work for an educational media nonprofit called the Story Workshop Educational Trust. Jimmy will….well, keep checking the Journal for more on that.

When not working, we run, ride our bikes and swim. Janie is a marathon and triathlon coach for Rogue Running. We hang out with our friends and drink beer. We laugh a lot. We read. We volunteer our time with great Austin nonprofits (and always wish we did it more); we try to stay close with our families. Jimmy likes to play on Google image search. Janie sometimes sings into a hairbrush in front of the mirror. We wash our dog, Lucy, occasionally.
