Connell and Ryan's Visit to Malawi

Pre-trip Fun
The big day: Connell and Ryan arrive in Malawi Jimmy and Janie on the porch surrounded by treats - candy and bug spray - from C&R
Dinner at home   J&J fight over New Yorker magazines brought by C&R
Janie, Ryan and Jimmy waiting for a lunch of chicken and nsima at MegaBite. Ryan says MegaBite is "off the chain."   Official trail map for Michiru Mountain near Blantyre. How could Connell and Ryan have gotten lost?
Ryan at the Carlsberg Brewery in Blantyre.   After months of hassle, Wallace gets his driver's license!
The Big Trip
Gate to Liwonde Safari Park Sunset over the Shire River, Malawi's largest, in Liwonde
Connell and Ryan on boat safari   Herd o' hippos
Eagles resting after breakfast   Elephant drinking from the Shire
Antelope (sorry so small) grazing on the African plain. In the background, someone is burning their field to prepare it for the next crop   Jimmy, Janie and a monkey named Greg
(R&C once told David Sedaris a story, in which Sedaris heard -- incorrectly-- that Connell's father had a monkey named Greg. He then commented that was the funniest thing he ever heard. R&C didn't have the heart to correct him.) On our trip, all monkeys are named Greg.
Warthog roaming around our campsite.   Someone's mom's car
Waiting for an earthquake   C&R above the lake
The beach at Nkhotakota   Two women walk home to their village along the beach, carrying water on their heads
Our beach chalet in Nkhotakota   Malawi Carlsberg. Its national advertising slogan? "Probably the best beer in the world."
Relaxing at Chitheche beach   Mzuzu market, with goods from Tanzania -- and Japan?
Moon rising over our campsite at Vwaaza Wildlife Reserve (We were dealayed entry to set up our tents because there had been two elephants fighting in the site)   Tents set up strategically in front of the car to avoid being inadvertently stomped by elephants during the night
Time to go to the toilet   Scouting for animals
Stopping in for food at urban metropolis Mzuzu   Fancy digs in Luwawa Forest Reserve
Team-building obstacles at Luwawa
  Luwawa's permaculture garden
On the way back to the beach, look who we found at the supermarket   Bikes a-plenty in Malawi
The road to somewhere.   Senga Bay on Lake Malawi
And the reason you want this groggy picture of yourself on your website is...?   From the bar at Cool Runnings Lodge in Senga Bay
Coffee and tea in the morning   Fisherman dragging in two kilometers of rope, for unfortunately measly winnings
Mua Catholid Mission in Central Malawi -- founded by the "white fathers" -- which works to preserve traditions of the Chewa, Yao and Ngoni cultures   Inside the museum. We had a guided tour for 90 minutes and still weren't able to take in half of what is there.
Village across the river from Mua Mission   A mask representing a character from Gule Wamkulu, the name for a type of traditional Chewa dance and performance that imparts lessons and disciplines to the audience
Carrying water home before church   Ryan in the bamboo
Washing dishes at the village pump   Getting down with some deaf boys at Mua
Wood carvings by Malawian artists at Mua   Dedza mountains -- a view from Mua
